As AI spend surges and generic price benchmarks multiply, Tropic's customers accessed 67% more insights than in Q4, achieving greater savings by negotiating with data proven in real deals
NEW YORK, April 22, 2026 — Tropic, your intelligent procurement partner, announced a record first quarter of savings and insights today, alongside the general availability of a Tropic Connector for Claude, which makes Tropic's procurement intelligence accessible directly inside Claude with no configuration required.
AI-related software costs are growing faster than most finance teams can track, and negotiating them requires strategies that vary significantly by vendor, pricing model, and category. At the same time, a wave of AI-generated benchmarks has entered the market, fast and abundant, but built on estimates rather than transactions. Tropic's data comes from billions in actual spend, thousands of human-led negotiations, and a team of procurement experts who work live deals every day. That difference is what’s powering Tropic’s growth.
Better Data. Better Intelligence. Better Deals.
In Q1, Tropic surpassed $20 billion in spend under management, delivered more than $15 million in customer savings, and returned 44,808 hours to finance and procurement teams, the result of AI-surfaced opportunities powered by expert-led negotiations across the software and AI stack.
"Some of our customers saved north of seven figures on individual deals this quarter because they walked in knowing exactly what the market looked like," said Justin Etkin, Co-founder and COO of Tropic. "That kind of preparation doesn't come from just any tool. It comes from data that has actually been tested in negotiations."
Tropic’s combination of AI-powered insights and human expertise continues to translate into measurable financial outcomes across renewals and new purchases.
Q1 savings included:
- $2.98M on a Palo Alto Networks renewal
- $674K on a Smartsheet renewal
- $668K on a Zuora purchase
- $489K on a Socket purchase
- $302K on an Avalara purchase
- $270K on a Stripe renewal
- $261K on a Microsoft renewal
- $240K on a Workday renewal
- $220K on a FilesAnywhere renewal
- $209K on an Imply upgrade
Intelligence Delivery Up 67 Percent Over Q4
Tropic delivered nearly 15,000 insights to its customer base in Q1, a 67 percent increase over Q4, as teams used the platform to surface savings opportunities earlier in the renewal cycle. The company also saw a 420% increase in Expert Insights during the quarter, real-time, supplier-specific briefings on pricing trends, contract norms, and where teams have the most room to negotiate.
Examples of Expert Insights published include:
- Claude Enterprise SKU Consolidation: Anthropic restructured its Claude Enterprise pricing into a single SKU, giving customers time to assess cost predictability and set spend limits before renewal
- 1Password Price Increase: 1Password quietly reduced renewal discounts by 7% rather than raising list prices — customers who opened negotiations early had room to push back
- Salesforce Acquisition of Qualified: With Salesforce's acquisition expected to close in April, Tropic flagged a narrow window for customers to lock in pricing before flexibility narrows
- Twilio Spend Aggregation: Twilio began allowing customers to combine spend across Twilio, Segment, and SendGrid under a single contract, unlocking volume pricing tiers that weren't previously accessible
"Every deal we close adds to what we know," said Russell Lester, President and CFO of Tropic. "Which vendors will move on price, which ones won't, but will give you better terms, what competitors to raise and when. Expert Insights is how we put that accumulated knowledge directly in front of our customers before they walk into a negotiation."
Tropic's Data Now Available Inside Claude
Building on its Q1 momentum,Tropic announced their connector is now available in the Claude marketplace. For Tropic customers, it requires no configuration and brings pricing benchmarks, negotiation playbooks, compliance checks, and contract insights into Claude. All accessible the moment they're needed, without opening a separate tool.
Customers can load a contract into Claude and receive instant price benchmarking, supplier intelligence, and negotiation guidance specific to that vendor, all drawn from Tropic's data.
"Procurement decisions don't happen in a vacuum, they happen in the middle of other work," said Etkin. "Our customers are already in Claude. Now Tropic's data is there with them, exactly when they need it."
